Philip Stroup Cemetery on 2 April 2008On the second of April 2008 Sid Stroupe, Linda Ballard and myself took a whole day searching for Stroup Gravesites. This is just one of many we found in our adventure. I must say this was one of the most difficult to find. Without the help of a local resident we may have never found it. Looking back I need to return and clear some of the brush and clean up the site a little bit. All photos courtesy of Linda Ballard.
This is from Ethel Stroupe's files
The first photo is local man showing Sid that the Cemetery is off to the left in the brush about 30 feet away. The second photo is me kneeling in front of Philips Grave.
Philip Stroup's Marker You can see that Linda's idea of using flour to make the engraving stand out was a wonderful idea. She just happened to have the flour and paint brush in her car. I think she knew she was dealing with 2 amateurs in cemetery hunting.

Sid just finished applying flour to Laura's stone. Next photo I think Sid is telling me it's my turn to get flour all over my clothes. I want to add that this was one of the most fun days I have had in many years. We were so excited that we skipped lunch and just stopped in Alexis for a "ale and a pack of nabs". For all you youngsters that would be a coke and pack of cheese crackers.
