I have fond memories of Aunt Millie. She was full of fun and laughed all the time. Mostly I remember the huge spreads of food on the table at meal time. She owned a house on Pamlico Sound and we called it "Shady Banks". Mom, Dad and I actually lived there for a short period of time. I would sneak Mom's tea strainer and go to the canal and catch minnows and that always got me a whack on the butt.

My favorite story is about Mom and Dad at Shady Banks. Mom loved to fish. One day Uncle Ben, Mom and Dad went out fishing. They had a real bad day so they finally gave up and started taking the boat back to the dock. Mom had a large minnow on her rod and was dragging it behind the boat. Dad hollered back to her to reel that in because he said she was going to snag a stump or something. Well about that time her reel started singing. Dad said see what I told you!! Mom started reeling it back in and something started tugging back Well heavens to Betsy Mom had caught a huge striper. She told that story many times over the years and when she did Dad would get that funny grin on his face.
