BORN 1803 NORTH CAROLINA JOSEPHUS
"JOSEPH" STROUP).
He was born in 1803 at Hoyle's Cr., Lincoln Co., N.C., fourth child and
third son of JACOB (Ironmaster) and BETSY DELLINGER STROUP.
He was four years old when his mother died.
1814 TO SOUTH CAROLINA
JOSEPH was eleven in 1814 when his father and stepmother moved
to Blacksburg, Kings Cr., York Co., S.C.
1829 DEED
On Jan. 3, 1829 JOSEPH STROUP of York Co., S.C. witnessed a deed for
SHARRED JAMES to DARYL DICKEY. (1)

JOSEPH STROUP married MARY "POLLY" JAMES, born 1803 in York
Co., S.C.
1831 MORGAN CO., ALABAMA
In Jan 1831 and Sept 1835 JOSEPH STROUP bought land in Morgan Co.,
Alabama, perhaps following his father's example, buying land on speculation,
since he did not move to Alabama at this time (2).
1840 CENSUS CASS CO., GA.
In 1840 JOSEPH was listed in Cass Co., Ga. with 3 males, 2 females, no
slaves, living next to his brother ALEX. (2)
1850 CENSUS MORGAN
CO., ALABAMA
In 1850 JOSEPH lived at Stroup's Gin, near Danville, Morgan Co., Ala. at
which time he was listed as age 47, born N.C., occupation farmer, property value
$800. His wife POLLY was 46, born
S.C.

FATHER'S ESTATE
On Apr. 1, 1853 Joseph’s brother Alexander signed as his agent for his
$185.81 share of their father's estate, having been given a Power of Attorney.
(The Georgia copy of this Power-of-Attorney has been lost, but the
Alabama copy may still be on record in the Morgan County courthouse.)
DEATH
JOSEPH STROUP died Oct. 8, 1863 and was buried at the Stroup Cemetery at
Pumpkin Center near Danville, Ala. (4) The original tombstone to his grave was
uprooted by workmen, and a new marker was placed by son DANIEL D. STROUP reading
"J.S."
MARY "POLLY" (JAMES) STROUP died after 1877 in Alabama, and was
buried at Pumpkin Center Cemetery, with a marker that now reads "P.S."
