The Stroups repeated the same given names.   In 1810 Gaston County census, two David Stroups who were (half) first cousins, lived in the same Upper Hoyle’s Creek neighborhood.   

1810 N.C. CENSUS

       David Stroup, (b. c1795) 1 male aged 26 - 44 (himself, aged about 26), 3 females under 9, 1 female aged 26 - 25 (his 2nd wife Peggy Inglefinger wife). [Research of Reiley Kidd, M.D., Microfilm Reel #40, p 495/375.]  From other census listings, his first farm seemed to adjoin that of his father Adam Stroup.   This should be the David Stroup who later moved his family to Bull Creek, Buncombe, western North Carolina, to live near his older brother Joseph (born 1776)

      Michael Stroup (living in the home place of his late father, (Jacob Stroup, Sr.)

      Philip Stroup, Sr. (eldest s/o Jacob, Sr. by his 3rd wife) who lived on a farm adjoining his brother Michael on the east.

      Henry Slinerd

      Daniel Stroup (who c1812 moved to Cherryville).

      Adam Stroup (b. 1746, eldest s/o Jacob, Sr. by 1st wife Caterina Frensch). 

DAVID STROUP

      Born Abt 1797, after 1850, s/o Philip, Sr.

Adam Stroup’s much younger half-brother, Philip, Sr. also named a son David. 

      David Stroup, born c1797 son of Philip Stroup, Sr. and Mary Eddleman.  Married 1st Ann Cloninger, Lincoln MB 14 Sept 1821, Surety Moses Cloninger.  Married 2nd Lincoln marriage bond 16 Sept 1824, Lavina Shutley, Surety James Moore.
