Alfred Stroup (Front center) in group shot of Sunday School class. He was superintendent of the Sunday School class. This is near Christmas time and the bags the kids are holding are gift bags for the needy. Uncle Jim told me that "Papa and Mama" never insisted on the kids going to church. They felt it was a individual decision that each child must make. Uncle Jim said Richard joined the church to improve his chances of winning Class President when he was a senior in High School.
These are Alfred's glasses he wore to read with. These glasses are in the possession of Jim Stroupe.
This was Grand Pa Alfred's school slate. When he was a young boy they didn't have books and wrote their assignments on their slate. My guess would be that his father Ephriam made this slate for him. Note that Alfred or Ephriam carved his initials on the wooden border. I would guess Alfred did this because Ephriam couldn't write. This slate is in possession of Michael Stroupe
This is a notebook that Grandmother Beulah pasted recipes in. The back pages have clippings of gardening tips. There is a note on first page written by Aunt Della, it also has her name on front cover. Xmas 1948 A portion of the recipes and garden ideas collected and left by Mama. These plus some "keep sakes" were pasted in this scrap book for me by Irene This book is in possession of Jim Stroupe
Above are 2 deeds where Alfred purchased adjoining property. The first was 26 acres from Lee Lindsay for $275.00 on 14 Mar 1907.. The second was for 9 9/10 acres from W. F. Sisk for $140.40 on 21 Mar 1908. These deeds are in the possession of Jim Stroupe.
