Adam StroupDNA Problem We have five project members who have an "on paper" descent from Jacob STROUP I (1724-1804) of Lincoln [now Gaston] Co., NC, with results returned for all five. The problem is that three of the five do not remotely match the other two genetically: three are Haplogroup J2 and the other two are Haplogroup I1a-AS5. The Haplogroup I1a-AS5 STROUPs match nine descendants of Johann Pieter STRAUB I, confirming the long-held assertion that Jacob STRAUB/STROUP I is his son, the one who immigrated with him to Philadelphia in 1733. The three Haplogroup J2 individuals are all descendants of Jacob STROUP II, who was once believed to be a grandson of Jacob I, but who genetics now prove was not.I have begun a Node Chart for Jacob STROUP I, to help map out a testing strategy to determine the location of the genetic break between Jacob I and Jacob II. All individuals descended from Jacob STROUP I's alleged son, Adam, have a stake in this determination because, depending on where the break occurs, it has the potential for affecting all of Adam's descendants, not just the descendants of Jacob II. I strongly urge anyone descended from Adam to join the project and be tested. A simple 12-marker test is all that is needed to prove whether you are Haplogroup I1a or J2. Diana Gale Matthiesen
This is our Stroup Group for exchanging Stroup information and thoughts. We are interested in all lines of Stroups. We have photos and documents from North Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, and Alabama Stroups plus others. I have Ethel Stroupe's files and am posting them as fast as I can convert them from Apple to Windows files. She has Bio's on most of the early Stroups which I have posted. We have several members that are very active in research and make frequent "road trips", so come join us and enjoy all the information available. ![]() Click to join Jacob_Stroup_Family

Adam Stroup, son of Jacob, moved to North Carolina with his father. According to his Revolutionary War Pension record, Adam, a resident of Lincoln County, served six months in the NC Militia as a Private in the Company commanded by Capt. Armstrong and Capt. Ledbetter. Jacob is thought to have left behind a brother who continued to reside in York County, PA.

Adam paid Peter Forney to take his place early in the war. Adam had 2 small children and didn't want to go to Tennessee to fight but when the fighting got to the Carolinas he joined in the fighting. Below is copy of the first paragraph of Peter Forney's pension application.
